SPONSORED: Breaking the ‘Rich Now, Poor Later’ OFW Cycle

Terence Rey Lim and Emelia Cudiamat Lim were OFWs in Milan who had a simple dream. After a decade of hard work and smart decisions, they are finally back in the Philippines – free, rich, and with no need to ever work again.

While some people travel to Italy to enjoy the sights, taste the food, or shop, Terence and Tet’s journey was completely different. Tet’s first few years of her journey in Italy were very busy – she had to clean bathrooms for four different employers every day, with barely enough time for lunch.  Oftentimes, she would go home late at night completely exhausted, not even having enough energy for dinner, and heading straight to bed to rest for the next day’s work.

The path Terence started on in Italy was just as tough.  He would wake up at 4 am everyday during wintertime at a temperature of up to negative two degrees to work in a warehouse.  With his bare hands, he carried heavy boxes all day, coming home at night with locked and aching fingers. Afterwards, he would go home, go to bed, and do the same work under the same working conditions the next day.

The trials and hardships that the couple went through ignited a desire within them: they would not allow the next generation of their family to go through the same struggles they did.

On weekends, they travelled throughout Milan to explore other opportunities to earn. One day, someone showed them the vast potential in investing in Philippine properties. As they did not have enough savings to invest, they decided to become property agents instead. The couple devoted their free time to learning more about the business. Giving their all in the new venture, they realized that aside from earning more than their regular 12 hours/day, 5 days/week job, they would also be able to help other OFWs invest their hard-earned money.  What started as a desire for the couple to earn more turned into a personal mission to help their fellow OFWs be more than just workers based abroad.

In the following years, they were able to sell more and help more OFWs. This helped increase their personal property investment portfolio. With so much success and support from their clients, the couple decided to resign from their regular day jobs and commit full-time to their property business.  They began travelling to different cities in Europe, sharing their success story with fellow Filipinos.

Despite their budding success, they made sure that they would continue living a simple life: they opted to purchase a second-hand car and rented out a more affordable place, just to maximize their investment fund.

At present, the Filipino-Chinese couple is on a worldwide crusade to break the “Rich now, poor later” OFW cycle that has plagued millions of OFWs by combining the Chinese approach to managing finances and investments with the natural excellence and creativity of the Filipino – the same traits that made them OFW millionaires.

To date, they have helped more than 22,500 OFWs correct their wrong money beliefs, and have turned more than 200 of them into multi-millionaires. More importantly, the couple made sure that these multi-millionaires realize the importance of earning millions by helping millions. Through the Filinvestor International Foundation, OFWs who are affiliated with Filinvest International are able to give donations from their own pockets that fund outreach efforts and projects that benefit less privileged communities. Among their most recent projects were donating relief goods worth 1 million pesos to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy and supporting local foundations like The Yellow Boat of Hope, which already gave 200 boats to communities that will help transport kids to school, and Bag943, through which they provided 1,000 bags to underprivileged children in the hopes of inspiring them to continue their studies.

Now, with the help of tens of thousands of advocates all over the globe, they launched a worldwide “Never Work Again” Freedom Power Caravan, aiming to continue breaking the aforementioned OFW cycle by turning them into OFW millionaires with the privilege to retire young and rich and never work again. This, in turn, would allow them to come home to the Philippines and stay here for good – the dream of most overseas Filipino workers.

Thanks to the overwhelming success of the Never Work Again caravan in Oman, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Malaysia and Kuwait, the Filipino communities in Japan, Indonesia, China, Italy, Spain, Taiwan, Israel, Ireland, Australia and the US have now begun working with the couple to bring the caravan to their areas.

Aside from the lessons and realizations attendees get from the transformational event, these OFWs are also given the chance to win 1,000,000 pesos by simply attending the seminar. No purchase is required here; attendees only need to have fun, learn, and be inspired.
